Four Restaurant

189 State Street, Portsmouth, NH

Our Medium, Beau, made some pretty remarkable "hits" with regard to Four. Although she would have known the fact that the site of Four was once a New Age herbal center (the Mustard Seed, now located in Nottingham), she made many direct references to events that actually took place there - and confirmed in a post-investigation interview with the Mustard Seed's owner.

Anecdotes include:

  •   Moving plates, glasses, and silverware.
  •   Apparitions of a man and a woman.
  •   Unexplained sounds and voices.

We also tested a second medium here, Ed Hall. Although his style leans more heavily towards "psychic" than "medium," he demonstrated the use of dowsing rods here for us. We used Beau as a gauge as to whether or not the rods' movements were due to "spiritual action," and were able to record her comments in one room while videotaping Ed and the rods in another room. The results were quite interesting, and we'll very likely be following up with experimenting further with Ed.

Although the use of dowsing rods is highly conjecturable in investigations - it's yet to be established they work for the (more common) function of discovering underground water - our curiosity got the best of us, and we'll be researching this phenomenon separately as we find time.

We had almost no objective experiences here, but it became subjectively intense late in the evening, when Kitt recommended each investigator "go solo" and spend ten minutes in a chair reputed to be located in "the heart" of the manifestations here. We have no way to remove "expectation" from the list of possible causes, but each investigator reported subjective feelings of threat and discomfort on these solo excursions.

Further, we caught several EVP here, but have yet to properly synchronize and assess them fully.
